Business Ethics . Every activity and every profession requires that employees work with the responsibility and must respect not only general, but also the special requirements of professional morality. Since ancient times it comes to professional morality or professional ethics, emph asizing such things as professional conscience and responsibility, self-esteem and dignity. Source http://www. ibe. org. uk/index. asp? upid=71&msid=12Individuals and professionals within Coca-Cola must be ethical in the decisions they make this include: Respect other workers and managers, Using appropriate behavior Perform job competently Act loyally Act honestly Coca-Cola ethical activities Coca-cola always focuses on making a positive contribution to the community. Coca-cola support a lot of charities, aims to be the beverage industry leader in energy efficiency and climate protection. Also they keep trying to improve bottling plants to safely return to nature and communities an amount of water equivalent to what they use in their beverages and production.Operational activities Operational activities are day-to-day actions taken by a firm to achieve its primary purpose to simplify that it is what a business actually does. Coca-cola makes soft drinks and beverage products, factori es contain machinery and have people running them, it makes and receives deliveries, people travel to and from the factory. Operational management is very important and that includes controlling how a business works, so that it achieves the aims and objectives which is set by strategic management. Aims and objectives An aim is where the business wants to go in the future, its goals. Objectives give the business a clearly defined target. Plans can then be made to achieve these targets. Without aims and objectives there is no meaning to business, it's the aim and objectives that give meaning to subsequent activities of planning, directing, staffing, organising and controlling. Coca-colaââ¬â¢s aims and objectives are to: To refresh the world ââ¬â in mind, body and spirit by providing the best product that they can to the public in order to create customer satisfaction and ensure that all employees are working to their highest standards.Coca-Cola also wants to be the best beverage sales and customer service Company and make sure to never let their high standards of quality fail. To create a value and make a difference ââ¬â everywhere they engage. To inspire moments of optimism ââ¬â through their brands and actions Live Our Values Coca-Colaââ¬â¢s values serves as a compass for their actions and describe how they behave in the world. Values include: Leadership: The courage to shape a better future Collaboration: Leverage collective genius Integrity: Be real Accountability: If it is to be, it's up to me Passion: Committed in heart and mindDiversity: As inclusive as our brands Quality: What we do, we do well http://www. thecocacolacompany. com/ourcompany/mission_vision_values. html Corporate Responsibility Coca-Cola manages their corporate responsibility through the Public Policy and Corporate reputation council. Coca-cola also have to review Company policies and practices relating to significant public issues of concern to the shareholders. After res earching Coca-colaââ¬â¢s Code of Conduct I found that Coca-cola said: Corporate responsibility is not just good for Coca-Cola, but for the whole world too.Protecting resources, saving energy and encouraging recycling are serious challenges. If we all play our part in meeting them, everybody will benefit. http://www. thecoca-colacompany. com/ourcompany/pdf/COBC_English. pdf Corporate Governance The Coca-Cola Company is committed to sound principles of corporate governance. The Board is elected by the shareowners to oversee their interest in the long-term health and the overall success of the business and its financial strength. The Board serves as the ultimate decision making body of the Company, except for those matters reserved to or shared with the shareowners. The Board selects and oversees the members of senior management, who are charged by the Board with conducting the business of the Company. After researching Coca-colaââ¬â¢s Code of Conduct I found that the responsibili ty for administering the Code rests with the Ethics & Compliance Committee, with oversight by the Chief Financial Officer, General Counsel and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors. The Ethics & Compliance Committee is comprised of senior leaders representing corporate governance functions as well as operations. http://www. thecoca-colacompany. om/ourcompany/pdf/COBC_English. pdf Environment Environment is very important as itââ¬â¢s the natural world either as a whole or in a particular geographical area. When it comes to Coca-Cola they keep trying to improve themselves and be environmentally friendly. Coca-Cola designed water programs to support healthy watersheds and sustainable programs to balance the water used throughout their production process. Also they use sustainable packaging, energy saving and climate protection. There are many bad stories how Coca-Cola had a bad impact on the environment. Negative stories ââ¬â EnvironmentIn 2004 Coca-Cola opened bottling oper ations in India ââ¬â Kala Dera village and after factory was opened the community started to notice a rapid decline in groundwater levels and people was thirsting because of Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola has more than 50 bottling plants and six are reported that they are draining water too much, because each bottling plant extracts up to 1. 5m litres of water everyday from the ground and it takes about 9L of clean water to manufacture a 1L of Coke. Sustainability Sustainability can be defined as maintaining the worldââ¬â¢s resources rather than depleting or destroying them. This will ensure business can support human activity now and in the future. Coca-Cola is always trying to reduce and optimize the amount of materials and energy used for their packaging, also 85% of their products is delivered in recyclable bottles and cans. Coca-Cola are also trying to reduce their impact and minimize their use of water and their goal is to improve their water efficiency by 20% by 2012. So all in a ll Coca-Cola is keep trying to stay sustainable as possible, although they have bad stories about depleting water in India. In 2000 Coca-Cola opened a new plant at Plachimada in India and it produced 1. m litres of coke everyday which is almost 11m litres of clean water from the ground everyday. Human rights are the rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled. Coca-Cola is constantly improving their human rights by respecting their employees and customers and protecting workplace rights. Coca-Cola had a lot of bad stories about human rights. To date, there have been a total of 179 major human rights violations of Coca- Cola's workers, including 9 murders. In 2001 Coca-Colas bottling companies had been linked to many controversies. These included the murder of eight union leaders. Violence, abductions and torturing of the union members were common practice in Colombia. In Code of Conduct Coca-Cola have said ââ¬Å"We are continually advancing our understanding of human rights by engaging with experts in the field and with our peer companies. In 2007, The Coca-Cola Company joined the Business Leaders Initiative on Human Rights (BLIHR), a network of 11 multinational companies focused on identifying practical ways of applying human rights principles within the business context. â⬠http://www. thecoca-colacompany. om/ourcompany/pdf/COBC_English. pdf Corruption is to be guilty of dishonest practices and impairment of integrity. The most important statutory areas are; * Freedom of Information Acts (2000 and 2002) * Data Protection (1998) * Health and Safety * Employment Law * Human Rights (2000) * Animal Welfare Acts And Regulation * Contractual Relationships * Environmental Information regulations 009 Lawsuit was filed in regards to company flavours, of Vitamin Water. Coca-Cola was charged in a U. S.District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, with ââ¬Å"forcing some bottlers to purchase hundreds of millions of dollars of unnecessary beverage concentrate to make its sales seem higher. â⬠Regulatory compliance is almost as important as legislative compliance. This is an important element in both good management and institutional efficiency. Elements include: * Funding * Teaching Quality Assessment * Research Quality * Financial Audit * Risk Management * Disaster Planning and Business Recovery http://www. lilesparker. com/areas-of-practice/regulatory-compliance http://www. thecoca-colacompany. om/ourcompany/pdf/COBC_English. pdf Coca-cola negative stories Working conditions Working conditions can be defined as the conditions in which staff works this can include stress and noise levels, degree of safety or danger or physical environment. Coca-cola has strict working conditions to ensure that their staff is always safe. Working conditions are really important and it includes health and safety standards. Coca-cola has bad stories for its working conditions. To investigate Coca-colaââ¬â¢s working conditions few undercover studentsââ¬â¢ was sent to Coca-colaââ¬â¢s factory for temporary job during summer. One of the studentââ¬â¢s was beaten by staff members at the agency and student said that he was beaten by staffers at the agency after he demanded pay for his work at Coca-Cola. Coca-cola had even more bad stories relating to summer jobs these can be found in link bellow: http://www. chinadaily. com. cn/china/2009-08/20/content_8591019. htm Business Practices Business practices are a method, procedure, process, or rule employed or followed by a company in the pursuit of its objectives. Coca-cola has a lot of b usiness practices and some of them was not been followed in the past.In 2003 Indian NGO, Centre for Science and Environment has announced that they found cancer causing chemicals in Coca-Cola. 2007 Coca Cola's products that were produced and distributed in the Indian market contained pesticides such as DDT, lindane, malathion and chlorpyrifos which all contribute to cancer and a weakened immune system of the human body. Individual Ethical responsibilities Every single worker in Coca-colaââ¬â¢s company must act in accordance with the law it does not matter is it staff member or is it manager all individuals should follow their own ethical principals at all time and be ethical. Conclusion Therefore to conclude this report on ethical business culture and trade practices of Coca Cola, some basic elements that can be adopted by Coca Cola are like Develop worldwide code of ethics, by these we mean that the statement given by the company's business culture is not true and the company sho uld come up with a proper solution to this problems and should not tolerate any human rights infractions in any of its plants, or by any of its subsidiaries.Consider ethical issues in strategic development, while making the strategic the company should consider ethical issue and develop its strategy according to it. Develop periodical ââ¬Å"ethical impact statementsâ⬠, when they are promoting any of its product they should make an ethical statement with it as it will help them to improve the company's image in the minds of consumer. RecommendationsCoca-Cola Company must ensure that they keep their company always ethical and donââ¬â¢t have any bad stories. Why Do Apple Slices Turn Brown
Apples and other produce (e.g., pears, bananas, peaches) contain an enzyme called polyphenol oxidase or tyrosinase. When you slice open or bite into a piece of fruit, this enzyme reacts with oxygen in the air and iron-containing phenols that are also found in the fruit. This oxidation reaction causes a sort of rust to develop on the surface of the fruit. You will notice browning whenever a fruit is cut or bruised because these actions damage the cells in the fruit, allowing oxygen in the air to react with the enzyme and other chemicals inside. The reaction can be slowed or prevented by inactivating the enzyme with heat (cooking), reducing the pH on the surface of the fruit (by adding lemon juice or another acid), reducing the amount of available oxygen (by putting cut fruit under water or vacuum packing it), or by adding certain preservative chemicals (like sulfur dioxide). On the other hand, using cutlery that has some corrosion (common with lower quality steel knives) can increase the rate and amount of the browning by making more iron salts available for the reaction.

What Should Be Included in a Recommendation Letter
Before we get into what should be included in a recommendation letter, lets explore different types of recommendation letters and take a look at who writes them, who reads them, and why theyre important.à Definition A recommendation letter is a type of letter that describes the qualifications, achievements, character, or capabilities of an individual. Recommendation letters are also known as: Letters of recommendationReference lettersJob referencesAcademic referencesCharacter referencesLetters of reference Who Writes Them People who write recommendation letters typically do so at the request of an individual who is applying for a job or a space in an academic program (like a college of business school degree program). Recommendation letters may also be written as character evidence for legal trials or other situations requiring investigation or assessment of a persons character. Who Reads Them People who read recommendation letters do so in hopes of learning more about the individual in question. For example, an employer may ask for a recommendation to learn more about a job applicants work ethic, social aptitude, past work responsibilities, and professional skills or achievements. Business school admissions committees, on the other hand, may read business school recommendations to assess a program applicants leadership potential, academic capability, work experience, or creative abilities. What Should Be Included There are three things that should be included in every recommendation letter: A paragraph or sentence explaining how you know the person you are writing about and the nature of your relationship with them.An honest evaluation of the persons characteristics, skills, capabilities, ethics, or accomplishments, preferably with specific examples.A statement or summary that explains why you would recommend the person you are writing about. 1. Nature of the Relationship The relationship of the letter writer and the person being recommended is important. Remember, the letter is meant to be an evaluation, so if the writer is not familiar with the person that they are writing about, they cant offer an honest or thorough evaluation. At the same time, the recommender shouldnt beà tooà close or familiar with the person being recommended.à For example, mothers should not write job or academic recommendations for their children because mothers are essentially obligated to say nice things about their children. A simple sentence describing the relationship is a good way to start the letter. Lets look at a few examples: I have worked as Jans direct supervisor for the last five years.Eddie was in my AP English class last year.I was Jamals debate coach for three years.I met Amy three years ago at the community food bank where we both volunteer.à 2. The Evaluation/Assessment The bulk of the recommendation letter should be an evaluation or assessment of the person you are recommending. The exact focus will depend on the purpose of the letter. For example, if you are writing about someones leadership experience, you should focus on their role as a leader, their leadership capability, and their achievements as a leader. If, on the other hand, you are writing about someones academic potential, you might want to offer examples of that persons academic achievements or examples that demonstrate their potential and passion for learning. The person who needs the recommendation can help direct content by explaining exactly what they need the recommendation for and what aspect of themselves or their experience should be evaluated. If you are the letter writer, make sure this purpose is clear to you before you begin writing the letter. If you are the person who needs a recommendation, consider writing up a short, bulleted list that explains why you need the recommendation and the subject of the assessment. 3. The Summary The end of a recommendation letter should summarize the reason why this particular individual is being recommended for a specific job or academic program. Keep the statement simple and direct. Rely on the earlier content in the letter and identify or summarize the reason why the individual is a good fit.

IT Project Implementation Failures Free Essays
Before an IT project can begin, the acquisition process must be successful. Once the implementation process beings, however; many things can start to go wrong because there are many factors and people involved that may not work together. Although the acquisition process is very stressful and important too, the implementation of planning a project and choosing the right team to do the job is not always as easy as it sounds. We will write a custom essay sample on IT Project Implementation Failures or any similar topic only for you Order Now As hard as it may be to effectively navigate through these potential failures, project failures such as the ones illustrated in the case study, Memorial Health System CPOE Implementation, can be evaded. At the beginning of the implementation process, Fred Dryer and Joe Roberts agreed and established a plan to get the CPOE system effectively enough for the staff and other employees to use. Stakeholders did not agree with Dryer and Roberts that this system would be meaningful and eventually disagreed with them. This must be a common problem with the implementation process, because it is very difficult to get so many people to work together cohesively. The organization undergoing the IT process must be a cohesive unit in believing in the project as well as being on the same page about what needs to happen. Since the stakeholders have too much power in the process, Roberts and Dryer left the project. The other project failure demonstrates the difficulty of choosing the right team members and management personnel to effectively run the project. The interim CIO, Melvin Sparks, was, to put it mildly, the wrong person for the job. He illustrated many of the project failures. He was unable to effectively communicate with his staff, made decisions that negatively affected the project and ultimately committed a huge mistake by changing the scope of the project during the implementation process. The project manager in the case study was yelled at to give good news or no news at all to Sparks. Not only is it completely inappropriate for CIO to yell at staff, but communication is integral in the implementation process, whether it is good news or bad. Changing the scope of the project during the implementation process creates chaos. A good acquisition process will create an environment where large deviations from the initial project scope are not accepted. Another vital problem in the case study was the lack of testing done on the system. Testing assures the team of the functionality as well as the problems that may arise from the system, and gives time to fix it. Sparks created no confidence in the team and showed none in the initial project. Conclusion: The case studyââ¬â¢s project failures could have probably been avoided. The main job of the implementation team, besides implementing the project, should be to create a strong team with strong management and staff. Without this backbone, the process is doomed from the start. There are steps and procedures that can be implemented in order to avoid these types of failures in the future. I would recommend cross-training between management to insure everyone knows what steps to take in order to have a successful IT project. How to cite IT Project Implementation Failures, Papers It Project Implementation Failures Free Essays IT Project Implementation Failures By: Jennifer Dobelstein University of Phoenix Professor: Jason Koller System implementation starts as soon as an organization has acquired the system and continues through the early stages that will follow through to when the day comes where the system can be in use by everyone! Also, the system means applying the plan that is discussed with the team and implementing all the factors together. An implantation process can most defiantly differ from one organization to another one. I am going to explain a short overview of what the implementation process is. We will write a custom essay sample on It Project Implementation Failures or any similar topic only for you Order Now First off, there has to be a team in this process. The team will consist of: Physician, Nurse Manager, Lab Manager, Radiology Director, CIO, IT Analyst, and a Business Manager. Evaluating the strategic plan for the process is good because this way everyone can hear each otherââ¬â¢s thoughts and plan accordingly to the plan. Evaluating is a key factor because you must evaluate and figure out more information in creating a plan. The second part of the process is creating a vision for the team so that everyone can work up to that vision and make it a success. Thirdly is to select team members to help implement this plan. Fourth are the schedule meetings to discuss the progress and discuss concerns if any have arisen/and discuss progress reports. Lastly but not least, making sure that upper management is involved in this process if needed. The roles and responsibilities that can be involved in system implementation can be identifying different strengths and weaknesses of the different types of implementing partners. Also, figuring out what types of capacity building the project needs to plan for and selecting the criteria for implanting partners in this plan. The process described in this case study did fail to include the fundamental activities. Some of the fundamental activities that should have been included are: organizing the implementation team and to identify the system champion. Another is to establish and institute a project plan and to determine a project scope and what the expectations are. In this case study, the process seemed rushed and some of the key workflow and system integration were missed. That also means there were twelve months left to complete this project which is not a lot of time. Their resources were getting smaller and had to start being budgeted, so the team got reduced and meant more work for the remaining team members. The project budget was already consumed, two months before being launched. Requirements were not met because of lack of the end-sure training that should have been done. Causes of the project failures can stem from many different things like: lacking clarity and purpose which was noticeable in this case study. This case study lacks clarity and purpose because it seemed this whole project was rushed with no help and hardly a purpose. Then the project kept getting behind each month and the communication was not good at all. Lack of believing in the project is also a project failure. In the case study, Sparks was not happy with the news that was brought to his attention and his attitude made it seem like he just did not believe in the project anymore. There was not enough leadership support and that was a huge problem. It seemed like Martin did not have any support in the project implementation. For each one of the indicators that I mentioned above, I defiantly would had done some things different. First off, I would had made sure that the project plan was clear from the beginning and made sure that there were meetings held regularly to discuss changes or questions. I would have had full faith in my organization with little to no doughts. I say even when things are not going their best, having a positive attitude will increase chances of succeeding. Also, I would make sure that there is enough people on the team and that budgeting was being done correctly. Making sure that the team is being supportive as well and helping is a must I would had done differently. Without leadership support, it is extremely difficult to stay on top and focused. From the year 2006, the foundation OSGeo conducts several conferences throughout the year across several locations. There are some basic objectives for conducting the conferences such as, To ensure that new conferences present a balanced mix of projects To aware more people about the geospatial information To understand better destination marketing through the conferences To make the conference financially profitable the organisation needs to attract more investors in their business. The city is surrounded with some exotic beauty and scenery, which attracts more travellers and a high educational opportunity, helps the students to attract and come to the different country (Ritchie and Crouch 2003). Due to the several of people and individuals in the city, it creates more cross cultural collaboration in the nation and it attracts more investors and businesses to the city. The organisation is a non profitable organisation. The main mission of the organisation is to create awareness and leanings for the students (Mina 2000). To attract more people and delegates in their business, the management of OSGeo finds Adelaide can be the best s uitable place for making the conferences. Adelaide is the vibrant and the cultural capital of Australia. To gather some relevant data and information about the geospatial and cross cultural, the organisation like OSGeo finds that will be the best suitable place for them and it attracts more people for their business. Due to the effective combination of the exceptional food, wine with art, culture, shopping and well balanced atmosphere and weather that can be the ideal place for making the conference for the OSGeo. The Adelaide Oval is a globally-renowned, world-class location, home to most important sport experiences and amusement from all around the world. Response to the buyers requirement To conduct the conferences the organising committee needs to aware about the venue and the conference room size before conducting the conference process. Due to the well cultural balanced and highly known place the organisation can easily conduct the conferences in Adelaide (Mina 2002). The fantastic weather and the highly renowned place attract the delegates to attain the seminar and the conference. To conduct the conference by the OSGeo the organisation needs to obtain a well schedule before taking some initiatives on their conference planning. The organisation needs to aware about the number of delegates and their hospitality facilities in the city (Nelson and Economy 1995). The conference place needs to be more technical upgraded for the betterment of the conference outcomes otherwise the relevant data and information cannot be shared properly towards the buyers. To attract more buyers in their business or in their conferences, the food beverages and hospitality requirement is qu ite important factor for the OSGeo to attract them well and aware them about their plans and procedures. To conduct the conference in south Australia the organisation needs to aware about the number of present delegates in the conference and number of rooms within the conference centre. It has been observed that to meet the desired outcomes of the conference the organisation invites almost 350 delegates in their business and most of the delegates came from different universities and schools from Australia. To make better facilities and awareness about the information in the conference centre one Ballroom with executive Boardroom has been attached. Within the Conference room to make better facilities for the conference the management uses Internet and Wi-Fi technology. To make better presentation for the conference projector technology is quite significant in this business process. To attend workshop for the delegates the management used the pre functional area as a workshop place in the conference centre. To make the conference effective in their business process different small scale a nd large scale organisation sponsors the program for the betterment of the society like as Ordnance Survey, GEOCAT, Camp to Camp etc. Conference 2016-2017 Budget Expenses Amount (AUD) Accommodation For Delegates 1013 Venue Rental 1420 Decoration 200 Food 2000 Security 125 Travel 150 Event Insurance 60 Technology 45 Marketing 120 Photography 60 Others 40 Total 5233 Conclusion To make some destination marketing of their business process, the organisation needs to aware about the proper marketing mix tools in their business process. By the help of effective service providing, placing their business, promotional activities and pricing of their service the organisation can easily promote their business in the new region of the market (Wang and Pizam 2011). Reflective As a member of OSGeo non profitable organisation I have to assess the best suitable place for conducting the conference which can be benefited for the individuals and students. By analysing the surroundings and the place of conducting the conferences I have to make some invitation of the delegates according to that. To conduct a global level conference about the geospatial information I have to understand the proper location of the conferences and I have to analyse the cross cultural aspects in the business process which can be benefited for the organisations point of view. Bidding process is quite significant for any business process to grab some opportunities from the government. To make the best bid in the business I need to be more strategic and less profitable in the business. Better brand image also attracts the organisation to grab more tenders in their trade. To attract more people and delegates in the conferences I need to be more strategic about the destination marketing. References Elliot, Jonathan and James Madison. 1941.
